Virtual Design Master is an online reality show challenging virtualization professionals to come up with innovative infrastructure designs. The brainchild of Toronto VMUG leaders Angelo Luciani and Eric Wright, the premise of the competition was spurred over discussing the reality Ink Master at lunch one day.
Angelo and Eric wanted the vCommunity involved from the beginning, so they turned to the community for their competitor pool and challenge ideas, which led to the Virtual Design Master team expanding. Melissa Palmer joined the team after writing the first challenge for Season 1, and setting up the storyline of the Virtual Design Master universe, and Jonathan Frappier joined the team after Season 1 after being a competitor.
Virtual Design Master is set in the world post zombie apocalypse. Competitors are faced with challenges such as building infrastructures with five year old hardware (that’s all they could find after the first zombie outbreak), and designing systems to build spaceships and to support life “Beyond the Clouds”, which is the theme of season two.
This is a non-profit, community powered competition, in which we endeavor to help folks improve their design skills with the help of the virtualization community!
